------John Ford Monument------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
While an associate at Mohr & Seredin Landscape Architects in Portland, Maine, Kim assisted in the design and project management for this monument on a prominent 5-point intersection in the Old Port. A statue of John Ford, film director, sits at the center of the intersection of Pleasant and Danforth Streets. The award-winning director spent summers on the islands off the coastof Portland and winters in the South. As an adult, he became enamored with the canyons of the West, where he spent significant time filming. Elements from each region were included in this design. Ford sits on his director's chair upon a base that resembles the buttes of Utah, and fades into rounded beach pebbles collected from the Maine coast. The backdrop to the monument is a green array of southern flowering trees, hydrangea and colorful daylilies. Surrounding Ford is a series of granite bollards, each containing a description of one of his Oscar-winning films. Granite, cobble and brick details complete this design.
